About us

Afungus doo is a company specializing in the research of filamentous fungi and their secondary metabolites isolated from weeds and various, often neglected habitats. Filamentous fungi are a large group of microorganisms that grow in the form of thin hyphae, forming a mycelium. Filamentous fungi are a key source of secondary metabolites, which provide bioactive compounds with potential for drugs, plant protection and innovations in biotechnology. It is precisely these fungi that have had enormous significance for science and society throughout history - the most famous example is the discovery of penicillin from the genus Penicillium, which launched the era of antibiotics, while species such as Aspergillus have provided numerous enzymes and metabolites widely used in biotechnology and industry.

Our mission

Our mission is to discover and study unexplored filamentous fungi from diverse ecosystems and to better understand their biological role and potential in science and industry. What sets us apart is our innovative approach – we connect scientific research with citizen science and involve the wider community in sample collection and research.
